Ninety Days: What To Actually Expect

By Dr. Samar Idris · 6 minute read · 14 May 2026

A realistic timeline, because patience is easier when you know what you're waiting for.

Hair grows roughly a centimetre a month. That single number sets the honest limits of what any oil can do inside three months, and it is the number most brands avoid printing.

Weeks one to three

What changes first is surface and feel. Less static, easier combing, ends that look less frayed under light. This is conditioning, and it is real, but it is also reversible — stop, and it goes.

Weeks four to eight

Breakage tends to reduce before growth becomes visible. Hair that stops snapping mid-length starts holding its shape, which reads as thickness even though nothing new has grown yet.

Most of what people call growth in month two is simply length that stopped being lost.

Weeks nine to twelve

Around three centimetres of new hair has arrived, and the scalp has had long enough for any change in comfort to settle. This is the earliest point at which it is fair to judge.

If nothing has changed by then, stop. A ritual that isn't working for you does not deserve your evenings.
